Leijonaemot has applied funding from the Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations (STEA) for two projects to support families and siblings of children with special needs in Finland. The funding was granted for both projects for 2018-2020 (the funding has continued in 2021).
Project 1: Health benefits of nature experience for families of children with special needs (Perhe edellä puuhun -hanke).
Mission of the project: to provide possibilities and arrange events for families of children with special needs in the environment where the benefits of nature experience can be explored. The project introduces different methods and means how to benefit from the environment and how to do different activities in the nature with whole family.
Project 2: Supporting the siblings of children with special needs (Näkymätön sisarus -hanke).
Mission of the project: to organize activities for siblings and parents of children with special needs. To increase the siblings’ visibility and to make siblings’ voices heard within a family. During the project, the siblings’ peer support events are arranged. The goal of these events is to provide siblings one-on-one time with their parents and to provide peer support from one sibling to another.
